Naga Panchami is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha Panchami of the Hindu calendar month Savan or Shravan. According to the Gregorian calendar, Nag Panchami occurs in July or August. It is held two days after the Hariyali Teej. On this day, women pray for their brothers and families. They worship Nag Devta (the Lord of Serpents) in temples and occasionally go to snake pits/holes to offer milk to them.
The name 'Nag' refers to a serpent, snake, or cobra. Panchami refers to the fifth day of either the waxing Moon (Shukla Paksha) or the waning Moon (Krishna Paksha) in the lunar cycle, with each phase lasting 15 days. The Hindus have a special day to worship snakes. Hindu philosophy includes the worship of nature and animals.

Nagpanchami is one of the most important festivals, and Hindus celebrate it with tremendous devotion and excitement. On this day, people worship the Snake Lord. Devotees follow the customary rite of holy bathing the divine idol of Snake Lord. On this auspicious day, one can see snake charmers in many parts of the country, holding bamboo baskets with genuine snakes. These shake charmers make the snake dance by playing a pungi instrument. Many people congregate around the snake charmer, offering milk and worshiping the snake. Devotees do Naag Puja for the Ashta Naag devtas. The term Ashta Naag translates to "eight snakes." Meaning: Vasuki, Takshaka, Kaliya, Manibhadrak, Airavata, Dhritarashtra, Karkotaka, and Dhananjaya provide beings with fearlessness.
Snakes hold a significant role in Hinduism, hence they are regarded as worshipable. Lord Shiva wears the snake deity as a necklace around his neck, while Lord Vishnu sits on the bed as Sheshnag. Lord Shankar is thought to be the worshipable deity of the month of Sawan.
It is claimed that when the gods and demons churned the ocean to collect the Navaratnas and nectar, Vasuki Naag served as the churner's rope for the benefit of the world. According to mythology, this is also the day when the snake caste first appeared.
Vasuki, the serpent god, is also wrapped around Bholenath’s neck. According to religious beliefs, worshiping the snake god on Nag Panchami offers favors to believers.
On Nag Panchami, after getting up in the morning and having a bath, focus on Lord Shiva.
After this, decide to fast and worship.

After your milk bath, take a water bath.
After bathing, worship the snake idol with fragrant flowers, incense, and a lamp.
Next, serve turmeric, roli, rice, and flowers to the serpent idol.
